Triangle Shade Sail – Breathable HDPE Outdoor Sun Protection

Create a cooler, more comfortable outdoor space with this triangle shade sail. Designed for Australian outdoor living, the breathable fabric provides practical shade while allowing air to circulate underneath – ideal for patios, gardens, courtyards and poolside areas.

Made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), this outdoor shade sail helps reduce direct sun exposure without trapping excessive heat beneath the fabric. Its breathable construction allows warm air to escape, creating a more comfortable shaded area on sunny days.

    Why You'll Love It

    • UV Protection: Helps reduce direct exposure to the sun in your outdoor areas.
    • Breathable HDPE Fabric: Allows air to circulate through the shade sail for improved comfort.
    • Reduced Heat Build-Up: Breathable construction helps limit trapped heat underneath the sail.
    • Curved Edges: Designed to help achieve proper tension and a stable installation.
    • Versatile Outdoor Shade: Ideal for patios, gardens, courtyards, entertaining areas and poolside spaces.

    Made for Australian Outdoor Living

Whether you're shading an outdoor dining area, garden seating space or poolside zone, this HDPE shade sail provides a simple and effective way to create comfortable shade while maintaining airflow.

    Breathable Outdoor Shade

Unlike waterproof coated fabrics, the breathable shade sail allows air to pass through the material, helping create a cooler-feeling space underneath while providing practical protection from direct sunlight.

    The transformation

The corner of the yard that was never shaded, finally usable

Real backyards have angles. The paving runs out on a diagonal, the boundary fence cuts across, there is one wall of the house and a single post, and the strip that gets the worst of the afternoon sun is exactly the strip with nowhere obvious to fix anything. So it stays empty, year after year.

    The result

A triangle works with those angles rather than against them. Three anchors, one of them often the house wall itself, and you have shade over the part that was unusable. The uneven sizes matter here — a 300 × 400 × 500 cm sail follows a boundary line the way a square never will. One thing to be honest about: this is uncoated breathable HDPE. Air and water pass through the fabric, so it shades the sun and does nothing about rain.

    The difference

    See what shade can change.

A triangle asks less of your yard than any other sail shape. Three fixings, one afternoon, and a corner that was too exposed to sit in becomes a place with a couple of chairs in it.

    Why this one

    Why a triangle

The triangle is the shape that fits when the rectangle cannot. Fewer anchors to find, a fall built into the geometry, and sizes that are deliberately not symmetrical.

    • Fewer fixings to find

Three solid anchor points is a much easier ask than four. A wall, a pergola post and a single new post set in concrete will usually do it.

    • Uneven triangles for uneven spaces

Sizes such as 300 × 400 × 500 cm and 500 x 500 x 700 cm are made for runs and corners rather than squares — match the longest side to your longest span.

    • Aim it at the sun you actually get

A triangle can be rotated so its longest edge faces west, which is the direction the low, hot afternoon light comes from in most Australian yards.

    • Layer two or three

Several triangles hung at different heights and angles will cover an area that no single sail shape would, and the overlaps read as deliberate rather than patched.

    Installation

    Three anchors, four steps

Nothing here needs a trade. What it needs is honest anchors and real tension. Ropes, turnbuckles and shackles are not in the pack, so buy them alongside the sail and match them to what you are fixing into.

    1. Measure your three points

Measure each of the three distances between fixings — all three, not just one. Subtract 30 to 40 cm per corner for hardware, then choose the sail whose three sides fit inside those figures.

    2. Check each anchor is structural

Wall studs, brickwork, a solid pergola beam or a post set properly in concrete. A tensioned triangle pulls hard in three directions, and fascia boards and fence palings will not take it.

    3. Drop one corner

Fix two corners high and the third clearly lower. That single decision gives you the fall that sheds water and leaves, and it stops the sail looking limp from below.

    4. Tension the three corners evenly

Take up slack a little at a time at each corner in turn until the curved edges pull straight. Even tension is what keeps a triangle flat; pulling one corner hard first will twist it.

    Choose your size

    Choosing from eleven sizes

Order on the three distances between your fixing points, minus 30 to 40 cm at each corner for hardware. Equal-sided sizes suit open spaces where you are setting your own posts; uneven sizes suit spaces where the anchors are already decided for you.

    • 2 x 2 x 2 m

A balcony corner, a doorway, or shade over a pair of chairs. The smallest in the range and the easiest to anchor.

    • 3 x 3 x 3 m

The everyday size for a courtyard or a small seating area with three fixings roughly 3.6 m apart.

    • 3 x 4 x 5 m

The uneven one. For corners between a house wall and two posts, or a strip running along a boundary.

    • 6 x 6 x 6 m

The largest equal-sided size, for covering a whole entertaining area or a broad open lawn under one span.

TipIf your three measurements do not match any equal-sided triangle, do not force it — look at the uneven sizes first. And when you are between two options, take the smaller one, because a sail that will not reach cannot be tensioned.

    What is in the pack

Only the sail. No ropes, turnbuckles, shackles or posts — those depend entirely on whether you are anchoring into brick, timber or a freestanding post, so they are bought separately.

    Questions about this sail

Answers drawn from this product's own specifications.

Measure all three distances between your fixing points and take 30 to 40 cm off each corner. If the three remaining figures are roughly equal, use an equal-sided size such as 400 × 400 × 400 cm. If they are not, go straight to the uneven sizes — 300 × 300 × 400 cm, 300 × 400 × 500 cm, 400 × 400 × 600 cm or 500 x 500 x 700 cm.

You need three. The usual answer is that two come from what you already have — a house wall, a pergola post, a carport upright — and the third is a new post concreted into the ground. That is a normal part of a sail install rather than a sign this is the wrong product.

Yes. Match the longest side of the sail to the longest distance between your anchors, and work around from there. Laying the sail out flat on the ground and checking it against your measurements before you climb the ladder saves a lot of time.

No. The sail is supplied on its own. Ropes, turnbuckles, shackles and posts are sold separately so you can choose hardware suited to your surface.

No. This is breathable HDPE with no waterproof coating — air and water both pass through it. That is deliberate, because it stops heat and wind loading building up under the sail, but it does mean it is a sun shade and not a rain cover.

Yes, and it is a common way to cover an area with no single anchor layout to suit one big sail. Hang them at different heights so the edges overlap rather than meeting flush, and tension each one independently.
