Triangle Shade Sail – Waterproof Outdoor Shade & UV Protection

Create a cooler and more comfortable outdoor space with this triangle shade sail. Designed for outdoor use, it provides practical protection from direct sunlight and rain, making it ideal for Australian gardens, patios, courtyards and poolside areas.

Made from Oxford polyester with a waterproof coating, this outdoor shade sail combines durable construction with reliable everyday protection. Reinforced stitching and treated joining areas help reduce water penetration for greater confidence outdoors.

    Why You'll Love It

    • UV Protection: Helps reduce direct sun exposure and creates a more comfortable shaded outdoor area.
    • Waterproof Design: Oxford polyester with a waterproof coating provides protection from rain and moisture.
    • Reinforced Construction: Reinforced stitching and treated joins help limit water penetration.
    • Curved Edges: Designed to improve tension across the sail and help reduce sagging when correctly installed.
    • Versatile Outdoor Use: Ideal for gardens, patios, courtyards, entertaining areas and poolside spaces.

    Designed for Australian Outdoor Living

Transform exposed outdoor areas into more comfortable spaces with a practical waterproof shade sail. The triangular shape makes it easy to integrate into a wide range of outdoor layouts while maintaining a clean and modern appearance.

    Installation Tip

Install the triangle shade sail under appropriate tension and with a slight slope to encourage rainwater runoff and help prevent water from pooling on the fabric.

    The transformation

From bare paving to a corner you sit in

Paving holds heat, the tabletop gets too hot to lean on, and the good chairs stay stacked against the wall through the best part of summer. Then the sky opens, the cushions get soaked, and everyone moves inside. The space is fine. The sun and the rain decide when you can use it.

    The result

A triangle over the same paving keeps the surface out of direct sun through the middle of the day, and the waterproof coating with treated joins sends water off the low corner instead of through the fabric. With nine colours to choose from it reads as part of the house rather than something borrowed for the weekend.

    The difference

    See what shade can change.

Most Australian patios are pleasant at eight in the morning and again after six. A coated triangle overhead changes which hours you get back, and means a shower doesn't end the afternoon.

    Why this one

    Why a coated triangle

    • Three points instead of four

Three anchors are easier to find than four on a real house — a rafter, a pergola post and a fence post will often do it, and there is one less hole to drill.

    • It pitches naturally

Drop one of the three corners and the whole sail becomes a slope. That matters more on a coated sail than a mesh one, because water has to go somewhere.

    • Two triangles cover an odd space

Awkward L-shaped courtyards are usually covered better by overlapping two triangles at different heights than by forcing one large square into the space.

    • Coated fabric, and what that costs you

Because it sheds water rather than breathing, it holds warm air underneath and takes the full push of the wind. Anchor into structure, give it a genuine slope, and take it down before severe weather.

    Installation

    Four steps, one afternoon

The sail is supplied on its own. Ropes, turnbuckles, eye bolts, posts and masonry fixings are bought separately — choose outdoor-rated hardware sized to your sail.

    1. Measure between the anchors, not the sail

Work out the distance between the three points you intend to fix to, then allow roughly 30 to 40 cm per corner for hardware. The sail should be smaller than the span it sits in.

    2. Anchor into something structural

Rafters, a pergola frame, brickwork with proper masonry fixings, or posts set in concrete. Fence palings, lattice and gutters will not hold a tensioned sail through a windy afternoon.

    3. Set the pitch before you tighten

Fix two corners high and bring the third noticeably lower. A flat sail collects water; a sloped one drains to a single point you can stand clear of.

    4. Tension corner by corner

Take up the slack a little at a time, working around the three points, until the surface is smooth and the curved edges pull tight. Firm and even, not drum tight.

    Choose your size

    Which size fits your space

Sizes are given corner to corner along each of the three edges. Equal-sided options sit evenly over a central area; the uneven options suit long, narrow spans and corners that are not symmetrical.

    • 2 x 2 x 2 m

      A small corner cover — a doorway, a sandpit, a barbecue or a two-seat spot on a balcony.

    • 3 x 3 x 3 m

A courtyard or a small setting for four, with room to walk around the table.

    • 4 x 4 x 4 m

A standard patio or a six-seat dining table, or one end of a deck.

    • 5 x 5 x 5 m

A large entertaining area, a pool corner or a long outdoor lounge — check you have three solid anchors that far apart.

TipMeasure between your fixing points and subtract about 30 to 40 cm per corner for the hardware. Buying a sail the same size as the span leaves you nothing to tension with.

    What arrives in the box

Everything above the fixing points, and nothing below them. Hardware is not supplied, so order it at the same time if you want to install on the weekend.

    Questions about this sail

Answers drawn from this product's own specifications.

Measure between the three points you will fix to, then take off about 30 to 40 cm per corner for ropes and turnbuckles. If your span between anchors is roughly 4.4 m on each side, the 400 × 400 × 400 cm sail is the one to order. It is better to be slightly under than to have nothing left to tension with.

The fabric is Oxford polyester with a waterproof coating, and the joining areas are treated to help reduce water penetration. That is not the same as a roof. Water has to be able to run off, so the sail needs a real slope and even tension. If it is hung flat, water will pool in the middle and that is where you will get drips.

No. You receive the sail only. Ropes, turnbuckles, eye bolts and any posts or masonry fixings are bought separately, which lets you match them to what you are anchoring into — a timber pergola and a brick wall need different hardware.

Anything structural: rafters, a pergola frame, brickwork with proper masonry anchors, or posts set in concrete. Avoid fence palings, lattice, gutters and eaves trim. A tensioned sail pulls hard and constantly, and it pulls hardest in exactly the weather you would rather not be outside in.

It is made for outdoor use, but a coated sail is a solid surface to the wind. We suggest taking it down ahead of storms and severe weather, and over winter if the space is not being used. Re-tensioning it once a season also keeps the shape.

Hose it down and use mild soapy water with a soft brush on any marks. Let it dry fully before folding it away. Avoid harsh solvents and pressure washers, which work on the coating rather than the dirt.
