Poolside and coastal spaces have a second problem beyond the temperature: the light arrives twice, once from above and once bounced off the water, the paving and the walls. Cover over your head does not help much when you are still squinting at everything below it.
Sand mesh breaks up the overhead sun and warms the tone of the light that gets through, which takes the hard edge off the reflection underneath. The open structure keeps air moving, so a covered deck still catches the breeze coming off the water, and the netting has far less to push against on a gusty afternoon than a solid cover would.
The change is not only temperature. A warm-toned net changes the quality of the light on the deck, and that is usually what decides whether people stay out there.

Sand is the colour to reach for when the surroundings are already warm — timber, sandstone, brick, dry grass. The triangle is what lets it fit around a pool surround or a deck corner.
Against decking, stone and coastal planting, sand reads as part of the setting. A bright white net in the same spot pulls your eye straight to the cover instead of the view.
Pool surrounds rarely offer four usable anchors in a neat square. Three corners let you span from a house wall to two posts and still pull a clean, flat sail.
A sand tone hides everyday dust, pollen and leaf marks better than a pale one, which means fewer trips out with the hose over summer.

Near salt water or a chlorinated pool, buy stainless or galvanised fittings. Hardware and tensioners are sold separately.
Work anchor point to anchor point with a tape, not from the deck edges. Deduct 30 to 40 cm per corner for the strap and tensioner, and buy the size that lands just under.
Structural posts, a plate bolted into masonry, or a rafter — not decking fascia, not a fence paling, not a gutter. Salt and chlorine will find any hardware that is not stainless or galvanised.
Clip the 40 cm strap at each corner and take the slack up by hand at all three before tensioning, checking that the net sits square between the points.
Set one corner lower than the other two so rain and leaves shed off, then tighten evenly until the mesh is flat and the rope edges pull straight.
The three numbers are the edge lengths of the triangle. Measure the spans between your anchors first — where you can actually fix matters more than the shape of the deck.

It comes down to light. Sand warms the light passing through it and hides dust and pollen better; white keeps a shaded area brighter but shows marks sooner. Around water and pale paving, the warmer tone is usually easier on the eyes.
No. This is an open mesh built for sun and airflow, so water goes straight through. A dry table in a shower needs a coated waterproof sail, not a breathable net.
No. The netting arrives with 40 cm straps at all three corners and 6 mm reinforced rope edging with corrosion-resistant metal clips. Turnbuckles, shackles and wall or post fixings are separate, which is what lets you buy stainless for a poolside or coastal spot.
It is treated against UV and mould, but no tensioned cover should ride out severe weather. Take it down when a storm is forecast, re-tension it a couple of times a season, and store it dry over winter if the space is not in use.
Hose it down where it hangs. Rinse with fresh water more often if it takes salt or chlorine spray, and use mild soapy water with a soft brush on marks. Dry it completely before folding it away.
It is the smallest option, suited to an apartment balcony, a narrow side courtyard or shade over one seat. On anything larger it will not reach between the anchor points once you allow for hardware at each corner.
